Call for Scores

Congratulations to the winners of the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra call for scores!

In conjunction with its inaugural Composer-in-Residence Program, the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra announced a call for scores by student composers. There was no age minimum but students could not be older than a high school senior during the 2017-18 academic year. The WCYO was thrilled to receive submissions from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Massachusetts!

The three student composers below will have their compositions read by the WCYO Symphony Orchestra on January 20, 2018 (snow date: January 27), guided by WCYO Composer-in-Residence, Paul Frucht, and WCYO Music Director, Eric Mahl. Participating student composers will receive feedback on their submissions from Mr. Frucht and Mr. Mahl in advance of, and during, the readings as well as a professional recording of the reading session!

Bravo!

Michelle Li – “Native Spirit”

Robin MacDonald – “Of Flowers and Fire”

Michael Tu – “Wizard War”
